Muscat: Omani business tycoon Mohammed Al-Barwani has been ranked 44th on the list of 50 richest Arabs in the world for 2016, with an overall wealth of $1.8 billion.
Al-Barwani is the founder and chairman of the MB Group, which was originally formed as MB Trading in 1982. The firm is now operational in 20 countries with over 6,000 staff, reported Arabic daily Al-Shabiba.
MB Holding’s subsidiaries are mainly focused on energy sector, with interests in integrated oilfield services, exploration and production of oil and gas, engineering and mining and trading.
The group’s investment portfolio includes stakes in many of Oman’s biggest companies, including banking, risk management, insurance, and hospitality and mining outfits.
Al-Barwani has sat on the board of several companies, including National Bank of Oman, Taageer Investment and Leasing and Shell Oman Marketing.
According to the survey published in Arabian Business, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal tops the list for the 12th consecutive year, with a fortune evaluated at $25.1 billion.
