Abu Dhabi: Customs officials arrested an Asian man at Ras Al-Khaimah Airport as he was trying to smuggle heroin worth AED500,000 in his abdomen.
The man fell sick and was taken to a hospital where 128 capsules weighing 1.036 kilogrammes of heroin were detected in his stomach.
The anti-narcotics squads arrested the man on his arrival at the airport, reported local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
Colonel Ebrahim Ali Kaptin, Director-General of the Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, said police were tipped off about the suspect, who was visiting the country.
During interrogation, he confessed to attempting to smuggle heroin into the United Arab Emirates.
