Dubai: The Food Control Section at Dubai Municipality denied rumours on social media that consuming Vimto caused cancer.
Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, executive director of Food Control at Dubai Municipality, said a message circulating on social media was not issued by an official source and is untrue.
Khalid Sharif warned people against spreading rumours on social media.
Incoherent language, lack of clear scientific evidence and misspelled words are signs of a spam, he said.
The municipality asserted that all food products are subjected to laboratory tests before being registered under the municipality's electronic system.
Vimto has undergone those tests periodically and there was no evidence that the product is harmful, reported Gulf News.
The Food Control Section at Dubai Municipality urged the public to call Dubai Municipality on 800900 to check if the messages they are receiving about food products in Dubai are true or not.
