Doha: The Foreign Ministry summoned the US Ambassador Dana Shell Smith over social media footage defaming the State of Qatar.
The Ministry said on its Twitter account that it had summoned the US diplomat to seek clarification of the defamatory online video.
Ambassador Smith apologized officially to the Qatari government over the defamatory film footage.
Smith wrote on her Twitter in Arabic, "Dear followers, please trust that those soldiers were making fun of themselves and not the country of Qatar … I offered my apologies to the Qatari government and I asked American military leaders to investigate the incident and take the proper ethical measures."
