HIS Majesty King Hamad has congratulated Bahrain’s football heroes for winning the AFC Cup.
Muharraq Club won the coveted trophy for the second time in its history on Friday.
His Majesty praised the team’s performance throughout the championship when he received club board chairman Shaikh Ahmed bin Ali Al Khalifa, members of its board of directors, the team as well as the technical and administrative staff at Sakhir Palace yesterday.
The King wished the club further success in future competitions.
He stressed that the club is one of the oldest in Bahrain and the Gulf, and highlighted its successful track record and achievements.
He also praised the support shown to the team by fans.
His Majesty directed officials to make a documentary on the club’s history and achievements, and stressed support for efforts aimed at serving Bahrain in various fields.
The King commended the tireless efforts of his personal representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and council’s first deputy chairman, General Sport Authority president and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to develop football as well as the sport sector in the kingdom.
Shaikh Ahmed thanked His Majesty for the meeting following the club’s victory.
