Bahrain’s reigning Olympic champion and former world champion Winfred Yavi set a new meeting record en route to claiming a sensational victory tonight in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase at the Athletissima Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Yavi triumphed amongst a high-quality, 17-runner field in nine minutes 00.04 seconds – shattering the meet's previous fastest mark of 9:05.98, set by ex-world champion Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya in 2023.
The win was the first for Yavi after four appearances in the steeplechase this international athletics season.
