TWELVE out of a planned 27 sites have been ‘greenified’ as part of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development’s (NIAD) ‘Forever Green’ programme.
The programme is part of Bahrain’s sustainable development plan to mitigate climate change effects, and is being rolled out under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad and under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty, and NIAD Consultative Council president.
NIAD has pledged to partner with the private sector in planting 50,000 trees across 70,000sqm in a project estimated to cost more than BD500,000.
The most recent efforts were focused on the December 16 Highway and Riffa Avenue, in partnership with the American School of Bahrain (ASB) and Ahli United Bank (AUB), respectively.
Key officials from the school and the bank joined municipal councillors for unveiling ceremonies and watering can celebrations at the sites.
