TWO government officials have appeared in court for the first time for alleged embezzlement.
The defendants working at The Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA) are accused of pocketing residency permit renewal fees which were paid electronically.
Investigations showed that they allegedly embezzled BD1,472 from 23 residency renewal transactions.
They denied the charges at the High Criminal Court yesterday.
A 40-year-old Bahraini detective testified in court against the defendants.
The trial has been adjourned until Tuesday for review.
