SIXTY violating advertisements were removed from various areas in the Northern Governorate as part of efforts to implement the 1973 Advertisements Law.
They were removed by the Northern Municipality from Hamala, Demistan, Karzakan and Malkiya with legal measures underway against violating companies.
According to an official statement by the Northern Municipality, the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry has organised the licensing process.
“The laws regulating advertisements have defined the controls, requirements and standards for organising advertisements in terms of content, location, size, space and technical specifications,” said the Northern Municipality in the official statement.
“The licence is issued by the department concerned which ensures that along with these conditions that the advertisement doesn’t impact traffic safety and lines of vision.
“There were some advertisements that were placed illegally without licences that caused a distortion of the public image in addition to posing a danger on the road through the way they were placed on public streets.”
The Northern Municipality urged companies and individuals to adhere to conditions stipulated in the 1973 Advertisements Law.
