Abu Dhabi: The General Directorate of Police in the Emirate of Sharjah denied online rumours alleging a bomb was planted near Al-Mashrek building on King Abdul-Aziz Highway.
Police officials issued a statement in which they dismissed the allegations as baseless and described the reports which were posted online, as blown out of proportion.
Specialist teams were dispatched late on Thursday night to the Al-Qasimiya district where they "found a suitcase which turned out to be a laptop, apparently forgotten by its owner", the statement said.
The media were urged to seek information from official sources, ensure the accuracy of news and avoid blowing things out of proportion so as to avert any negative impact on social security.
