A FUN science lab aimed at providing edutainment to children opened yesterday at City Centre Bahrain.
The Nutty Scientists Bahrain is one of 50 international franchises of the Florida-based educational centre that teaches science through experimentation and participation.
The facility, which includes two labs, a creative area, and a theatre, aims to teach scientific concepts to children in a way that they understand and remember, using revolutionary methodology and programmes spanning science, sustainability, and general life education.
“We want to encourage children to learn science in a fun way and to instil in their minds and brains that science can be fun,” centre owner Ehsan Jamsheer told the GDN.
“We cater to children aged four and up, but would ideally benefit those aged six to 10. We could go two years younger or two years older, as we have several activities planned for all ages.
“The labs provide hands-on experience for children, and the theatre will host science shows.
“These shows feature fun scientific experiments and explain how they work – such as evaporation, liquid nitrogen, and others.
“It is science and craft in the creative area, and the space can also be used to host birthdays, family gatherings, and special events.
“As far as we know, this is a first-of-its-kind initiative in Bahrain, one of this magnitude and scope, and one of the very few edutainment offerings for children.”
To mark Eid the science shows are also displayed in the mall’s main gallery, running four shows daily.
The centre is manned by six trained staff members and sessions are charged from BD7 onwards, running up to BD10 for one hour.
“This is not school – this is all about fun and children can come back if they wish to and parents can drop their children while they finish their shopping,” said the 46-year-old investment Bahraini banker.
