MANAMA: Bahrain’s ICT infrastructure and potential are under the spotlight at a key industry event that has made an in-person comeback after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.
The 10th edition of MEET ICT Conference and BITEX Exhibition began yesterday at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa.
The event was inaugurated by Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) chairwoman Mariam Jumaan amid wide participation of leading ICT companies, government entities and experts from Bahrain and abroad.
Organised by Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH) in partnership with WorkSmart for Events Management, the theme of the three-day event is ‘Leading the way towards the digital economy through artificial intelligence’.
The event is considered a regional platform that gathers decision-makers from the private and public sectors, key players, IT experts, and those interested in networking, and building valuable partnerships, to achieve common goals of highlighting innovative trends, services and products for ICT companies and promoting private sector institutions in ICT field.
This year’s conference include six sessions with 25 expert speakers discussing topics such as digital transformation, fintech, cybersecurity, blockchain and smart cities.
This is in addition to 40 exhibitors comprising ICT companies from Bahrain and the region.

Speaking on the sidelines, Arab ICT Union chairman Ubaydli Ubaidly underlined the potential of Bahrain in becoming an ICT hub, particularly given its advanced ICT infrastructure, skilled and highly educated workforce, and the favourable polices and regulations. He also asserted that the small size of Bahrain makes it an ideal destination for prototype testing.
The event concludes tomorrow with several workshops being held alongside the exhibition.
