Malkiya scored a late goal to hold defending champions Al Hidd to a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the VIVA-Bahrain First Division Football League played last night at Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
The first half of the match ended goalless. Al Hidd had got a chance to score when Nigerian forward Uche Agba got the ball inside the box from a cross in the right side, but he hit it wide.
In the second half, Al Hidd opened scoring in the 58th minute when international defender Sayed Mohammed Adnan headed in the top corner of Malkiya’s goal.
Adnan could have doubled the score when he received the ball from a cross, but his shot reached the defenders who cleared the ball.
Malkiya equalised in the 85th minute when defender Sayed Hashim Adnan headed home from a corner kick to earn an important point.
In the other match, held at Al Ahli Club Stadium, Manama scored a late goal to hold Muharraq 1-1.
Muharraq went into the lead with an early goal scored in the 5th minute by international striker Ismael Abdullatif. However, Manama equalised in the last minute of the match through Brazilian Everton.
Today’s matches: 5.15pm – East Riffa vs Al Hala (National Stadium); 7.30pm – Riffa vs Al Najma (National Stadium); 5.15pm – Al Ahli vs Bahrain (Al Ahli Club Stadium).
