FORMER football professional Hussain Salman led Al Fakhar to a valuable win over Victorious yesterday in the first Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games and eighth Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Football Championship (Nasser 8).
Al Fakhar won last year’s championship by a 2-1 score.
Salman scored both goals for Al Fakhar in the 60th and 64th minutes at the field of Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
Scoring for Victorious was Abdulrahman Al Malki in the injury time of the second half.
Both teams will meet again tomorrow. Al Fakhar will only need a draw or win to qualify for the final.
Salman won the best player award sponsored by Fast Link Bahrain.
Meanwhile, word is spreading that Shaikh Nasser will join his team Victorious in the semi-finals of Nasser 8.
It’s expected that Shaikh Nasser will play with Victorious for a short period in the semi-finals of the championship’s semi-finals or the finals if the team qualifies.
The participation of Shaikh Nasser comes to endorse the noble goals of the championship and to support the Bahraini youth and sports.
The initiative of Shaikh Nasser is an appreciation to the participating team in Nasser 8 and the positive interaction received by the new version of the championship, which includes new games this year.

In the basketball tournament, Al Muharraq beat Al Manama 86-81 at the Bahrain Basketball Association arena yesterday.
Muharraq dominated the throughout the four quarters, demonstrating a remarkable team play and harmony that led them to the win.
Meanwhile, Nasser 8 referees committee chairman Jassim Mahmoud confirmed that the committee, Bahrain football Association and Nasser 8 supreme organising committee are cooperating to provide a variety of the best local referees to manage the final matches of the championship.
Mahmoud highlighted the great performance shown by the referees in the first stages of the championship, adding that refereeing mistakes were few, indicating the long experience of the referees managing Nasser 8 matches.
He said it’s an honour for the committee to be part in such a prominent sports event.
Nasser 8 local newspapers contest will begin today. The quiz will include daily coupons on Akhbar Al Khaleej, Al Wasat, Al Watan, Al Bilad and Gulf Daily News newspapers.
The organising committee has set a daily cash prizes of BD50 to one lucky reader of each newspaper. It will continue until the end of the championship.
