A WOMAN was sentenced to a month in jail yesterday after being found guilty of a public indecent act.
The Capital Governorate Prosecution head revealed that the Lower Criminal Court, however, acquitted the defendant, identified only as a Gulf national, of the charge of misusing telecommunication devices.
Meanwhile, a man also involved in the case was acquitted of all charges.
“A video clip that went viral on social media showed the defendant in a morally compromising position that goes against public modesty,” said a statement yesterday.
Interrogation
“When the Public Prosecution interrogated her she admitted the validity of the clip and that she has posted it.
“The case was referred to the concerned court which issued its verdict and the Public Prosecution is reviewing the ruling in preparation for an appeal.”
The Public Prosecution stated on July 23 that a video circulating on social media revealed a GCC woman dressed in inappropriate clothes and charged her – along with a male accomplice – with the misuse of telecommunications, committing an immoral act and importing products with the intent to commit indecent acts.
The Public Prosecution interrogated the female and the male suspects – who imported the clothes she wore during the video – prior to them being referred to the court which issued its verdict yesterday.
