Retail giant eBay has banned the sale of costumes depicting the notorious serial killer Jeffery Dahmer.
A spokesperson for eBay said that moderators have combed the website for items depicting Dahmer and have taken them down as it violates the site’s policy.
eBay saw a surge in costumes being sold for people to dress as Dahmer for Halloween after the release of the hit Netflix show ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ in September.
The online retailer’s policy bans “items closely associated with or that benefit violent felons, their acts, or crime scenes within the past 100 years”.
As Dahmer committed his heinous murders within the last century, this policy extends to depictions of him.
eBay removed the items to prevent profits from the sales benefitting the estate of the serial killer, who died in prison in 1994.
The Netflix series has been criticised by the families of Dahmer’s victims, who said the show is “retraumatising” them.
