Seven sitting municipal councillors have made a comeback by securing their seats in the 2022 National Elections.
The council elections also set a new record with sitting councillor from Muharraq Governorate Ahmed Al Megahwi bagging the highest number of votes (8,589) in the first round of voting held on Saturday.
Zaina Jassim won for a second consecutive term making her the first female councillor to win a municipal council seat from Northern Governorate by getting 2,729 votes.
They have been elected for a four-year term, while 23 council seats are up for grabs in Northern, Southern and Muharraq governorates; the Capital Trustees Board is appointed by His Majesty King Hamad.
