Manama scored an injury-time goal to grab a 1-0 victory over Malkiya in the third round of the Bahrain VIVA Football League First Division Tournament at Al Ahli Club Stadium last night.
Manama’s Brazilian player Everton scored in the 92nd minute to lead his team to their second victory from three matches. They top the league table with seven points.
It was Malkiya’s first defeat from two matches, after a 1-1 draw against Al Hidd. They have one match on hand against Muharraq, which has been postponed due to Muharraq’s participation in the Asian Cup match against Al Ahad of Lebanon.
In the other match of the night, played at Bahrain National Stadium, East Riffa defeated rivals Riffa 2-0 for their first victory after a 2-2 draw with Al Hala and a 0-1 defeat against Al Ahli.
Penalty
The first half ended 0-0 as Riffa wasted a penalty kick taken by Hussain Salman in the 36th minute. It was saved by East Riffa goalkeeper Mohammed Al Ojaimi.
East Riffa needed only two minutes in the second half to open the scoring, through international striker Sami Al Hussaini.
East Riffa were down to 10 men in the 62nd minute when defender Abbas Ayyad was shown the second yellow card. East Riffa doubled their score in the injury time with Sudanese Ahmed Al Basha shocking the opponents with a second goal.
East Riffa have four points from three matches while Riffa remained with two points from two draws against Al Najma (0-0) and Bahrain Club (1-1).
Meanwhile, three matches are scheduled for today. Al Najma take on Bahrain Club starting 5.05pm at Al Ahli Club Stadium, while two matches will be played at Bahrain National Stadium. The first game between Al Hidd and Al Ahli starts at 5.05pm, while the second, between Muharraq and Al Hala, kicks off at 7.20pm.
