SULTAN Al Rumaihi was the shining star of the Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Showjumping Championship held at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club’s Military Sports Federation arena.
A total of BD10,000 cash prize was allocated for the championship, which featured intense competition among the participants, on the instructions of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs and Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation honorary president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The Ministry of Interior team jockey was a class apart during the event as he bagged first place in the championship’s two junior contests.
The first contest featured hurdles of 100/105cm with Al Rumaihi clocking 40.86 seconds for a comfortable victory, almost five seconds ahead of second-placed Inmar Ali. Pearl Carter took third place in 52.12s.
In the second competition, which featured 105/115cm hurdles, Al Rumaihi delivered a faultless performance to win his second trophy of the day, in a time of 55.31s.
Carter took the runner-up spot seven seconds behind while third place went to Titon Roger whose four faults overshadowed his time of 49.78s which was better than those of the victor and the second-placed rider.
