GDN Media’s #HelpThem Ramadan community campaign is building on the success of last year’s ‘Make a Child Happy’ initiative as readers and online visitors rally to provide support for Syrian and Turkish earthquake victims, as well as struggling local families.
This year’s Ramadan appeal is being conducted in partnership with Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS).
Fifteen-year-old Asian School pupil Rithanya Shyam Shankar and her family are the latest to show us support by dropping off a cache of toys at the GDN Press building in East Riffa.
The Indian Grade 10 student bought the toys and donated them on behalf of her family, namely father Shyam Shankar Maharaja, mother Thamizhselvi K and brother Krishiv Shyam Shankar, who studies in Grade 2 at the Asian School.
“Last year, we contributed to the ‘Make a Child Happy’ campaign, and this year, we brought even more toys for this campaign, hoping to put smiles on the faces of the children in Syria and Türkiye who have been through so much in the last few months,” Mr Maharaja told the GDN.
“When the earthquakes happened we donated clothes and food items to the Turkish embassy in Bahrain.
“We’re planning to come back and support the GDN campaign with more items, this time for the needy adults.
“We are also hoping that this inspires other students and families to contribute to the campaign, like it did last year.”
Gulf Daily News readers and online visitors have already started to offer support with steady supplies of bedding, toys, toiletries, clothing and shoes.
We are appealing to YOU to donate gifts during the holy month to our offices in East Riffa or our commercial HQ on Exhibitions Avenue and the BRCS HQ, also in Hoora.
Under the hashtag #HelpThem we need your support to collect brand new:
- Clothes, shoes and accessories for men, women and children
- Blankets and pillows
- Hygiene kits and
- Toys
Your generous donations will help people whose lives were destroyed in a matter of seconds and give hope that rebuilding dignity and everyday life will be possible this Eid.
Readers and online visitors can help BRCS to achieve so much by picking up some extra clothing, blankets, toothbrushes, sanitary products and toys, for example, when you’re next on a shopping trip.
Our teams are ready and waiting to receive your big-hearted donations.
