BAHRAIN’S MPs yesterday condemned the killing of a former Indian MP.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother, Ashraf, were shot dead on Saturday as policemen were escorting them for a medical check-up – a slaying that was caught on live television.
“The assassination flouts all laws and norms, and the principles of co-existence, tolerance and human values,” said a statement issued by Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam’s office.
The Speaker was deputised to issue the statement following a unanimous vote during Parliament’s weekly session on Tuesday.
“The Indian government needs to protect Muslims and their properties besides religious places to prevent continuous attempted attacks by extremists, who should be sentenced and facing justice,” the statement added.
“We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased.
“Our relationship with India is deeply enriched and will continue stronger through common interests.”
