Owners of cars that have been abandoned on streets for long periods of time will face fines and have their vehicles impounded, a top official at Muscat Municipality has announced.
The fines will range between OMR200 (BD195) and OMR1,000 (BD977) and an additional fine of OMR5 per day will be levied if owners do not collect the vehicle from the impound site, The Times of Oman reported.
Officials revealed that a warning sticker would be placed on abandoned vehicles after close monitoring, and if no action was taken within the grace period for 14 days, the vehicle would be towed away.
The move is part of efforts by the authority to improve Muscat’s appearance, keep the city clean and improve safety.
A crackdown on vehicles abandoned in car parks, outside villas and other areas was launched recently and the municipality has towed away 66 vehicles and placed 167 warning stickers so far.
