MORE than 200 seedlings were distributed to children as part of an environmental awareness programme yesterday.
The campaign was organised in collaboration between the Southern Municipality and the Southern Municipal Council which visited the Irada Child Rehabilitation Centre in Isa Town. It is within a larger scale national campaign, ‘Sawaed’, launched by the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry to promote municipal work and encourage community partnership.
On-board the eco-bus, an awareness lecture on hygiene was delivered to the children by Duaa Anan from the Urbaser Cleaning Company and around 200 seedlings were distributed to the centre’s students to encourage them to create a culture of planting and afforestation.
“This campaign aims at spreading the culture of municipal work, promoting social responsibility, and involving community members in implementing initiatives that contribute to preserving the environment and public cleanliness, and promoting these principles in the hearts of young people from childhood,” said council chairman Abdulla Abdullatif.
The campaign continues throughout Bahrain to further encourage a culture of community partnership and sustainable development.
