LAST month was the second sunniest June since sunshine records began in 1968, it has emerged.
The total hours of sunshine for the month were 373 hours.
The highest monthly total hours of sunshine for June was 374.8 hours recorded in 2020.
The details were revealed by the Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate in their monthly weather summary yesterday.
June was warmer than normal with the country witnessing above-average wind speed.
The mean temperature of the month was 35C, which is 1C above the long-term normal for June, and this goes on record as the fifth highest mean temperature for June since 1902. The highest mean monthly temperature for June was 36.3C recorded in 2019.
The mean maximum temperature of the month was 39C, which is 0.4C above the long-term normal, and this goes on record as the eighth highest mean maximum temperature for June since 1946. The same temperature was recorded in 2020, 2012, 2010, 2008, and 1997.
The highest mean monthly maximum temperature for June was 40.9C recorded in 2019.
During the month, Bahrain had nine days with maximum temperature exceeding 40C. The highest temperature recorded during the month at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) was 48.1C on June 12. Bahrain International Airport (BIA) registered 45.8C on the same day and this goes on record as the fourth highest temperature for June since 1946 at BIA.
The mean minimum temperature of the month was 31.5C, which is 1.5C above the long-term normal, and this goes on record as the fourth highest mean minimum temperature for June since 1946.
The highest mean monthly minimum temperature for June was 32.4C in 2018.
The lowest temperature recorded was 25.6C on June 4 at Durrat Al Bahrain followed by 28.1C on the same day at BIA.
The mean relative humidity for June was 41 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 60pc and the mean minimum 25pc. The maximum relative humidity was 83pc on June 27 and the minimum was 9pc recorded on June 12.
The mean wind speed for June was 10 knots. The prevailing wind was 54pc from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 32 knots on June 14 at BIA but recorded 36 knots on June 14-15 at BIC.
Dust was reported on June 4 and visibility dropped to 3,000m at BIA.
