THE best of British flavour has gone on display as the British Food Week was officially inaugurated at LuLu Hypermarket in Dana Mall, Sanabis.
The popular promotion, inaugurated by British Ambassador Roderick Drummond, features a variety of British products such as cheese, cordials, juices, desserts, chips, biscuits, chocolates and more.
“I think it’s great to see how every year LuLu surpasses itself and puts on a broader range with more and more quality products,” Mr Drummond told the GDN, on the sidelines of the event.
“There is an amazing offering of products this time, and it gets better and better every year.
“The fresh produce, such as the strawberries brought straight from the UK, are amazing.
“The bakery items, the cheeses, the tastes of Britain are all there, and it is lovely!
“I am glad LuLu brought a part of Britain here for the people of Bahrain to experience.”
Shoppers will be able to make the most of the finest British summer treats, from freeze-packed berries to teas, British organic milk, flavoursome yoghurts and speciality breads.
“I recommend the strawberries,” said Mr Drummond. “These are some of the best Britain has to offer and I hope people here enjoy them as well.”
Also showcased are beauty and hygiene brands such as soaps, detergents and home cleaning products.
There is a special offer on British seafood, including premium salmon from the UK, until today.
The opening ceremony featured children’s artwork about their favourite sites and landmarks across the United Kingdom, created by children of the British Club summer camp, who were rewarded with chocolates, biscuits and gifts for their efforts.
There is also a hot food section where you can indulge in classic cuisine such as fish and chips or a traditional Sunday roast.
LuLu Group director Juzer Rupawala said that this was the hypermarket’s biggest British Food Week to date, and they are looking to make it bigger and better in the coming years.
“At LuLu Hypermarket, we are proud of our long and delicious list of British products,” he said.
“The LuLu Group has its own logistics and warehousing facility in Birmingham to service our entire hypermarket chain and our commercial links with Great Britain have been growing.
“We bring small amounts throughout the year, and then we highlight them during the festival.
“We brought about 2,800 different products from the United Kingdom for this year’s festivities.
“We want to increase the number of products by 10 per cent every time, so every year we will offer more than the previous one,” he added.
The festival, which will be held across all nine LuLu Hypermarkets in Bahrain, continues until Monday.
