A NEW safe and secure BD200,000 state-of-the-art tree-shaded public park is set to be constructed in a bustling Saar neighbourhood.
The contract for the new municipal facility in block 525, covering 3,372.34 square metres, was signed yesterday by Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry Municipal Affairs Under-Secretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa at the ministry’s headquarters in Manama.
Shaikh Mohammed revealed that the park would include several recreational facilities, the most prominent of which would be a large shaded play area for children covering a space of around 454sqm.
He added that the area includes a multi-use pitch and around 630sqm of green space, in addition to sports equipment for warming up muscles before activities and stretching after exercise.
“We confirm the imminent start of construction work in the park,” he said, “with designs taking into account the requirements of intensifying the area’s afforestation.
“It will feature 124 diverse ‘shade trees’ such as fig, neem and ragweed, in a way that ensures that the green area surrounding the entire park offers its visitors the utmost comfort and relaxation.
“The project falls within the national afforestation plan that supports the sustainability of natural resources and environmental balance. The garden will also be provided with different types of shrubs.”
The facility will be equipped with toilets, parking for 14 cars and sprinkling devices for dispersing a cold water mist.
“Surveillance cameras will be installed in order to provide the highest standards of security and public safety requirements guaranteeing the care of visitors and the protection of equipment from vandalism,” added Shaikh Mohammed.
Northern Municipal Council chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedaie said the new Saar Park follows calls by the expanding local community to the authorities to provide more much-needed suitable places for recreation.
“The park contributes to our visions, goals and plans to provide a healthy environment that embraces recreational activities for the local community,” he added.
Area councillor Tariq Al Farsani said the park was highly anticipated by families and it would be constructed to the highest standards.
