His Majesty King Hamad has praised the honourable achievements of Bahraini athletes at the 19th Asian Games, being held in Hangzhou, China, noting that the honours contribute to consolidating the prestigious reputation of Bahraini sport regionally, continentally and globally.
The King expressed pride in Bahraini athletes’ determination, prowess and ability to compete and reach podiums.
Bahrain are currently ninth in the Games’ medal standings by winning 10 gold, two silver and five bronze medals. Except for the handball team’s silver, all the other medals were won in athletics competitions.
The King appreciated the unprecedented progress currently witnessed by the youth and sports sector, thanks to the tremendous efforts exerted by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman, as well as those of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president.
He also lauded the dedication and perseverance of all Bahraini youth and athletes, who have spared no efforts to raise the national flag at various sports gatherings.
The King affirmed unwavering keenness to support Bahraini athletes so as to enable them to continue their successful careers at various competitions and championships.
“We have talented youth who are capable of honouring the nation at various sporting events,” he said, wishing Bahraini athletes and national teams continued success and victories in the upcoming competitions.
The Asian Games will conclude on Sunday.
