It all began back in 2022 when my husband and I, in the midst of my pregnancy, stumbled upon a heartwarming opportunity at the BSPCA Animal Welfare Centre. Little did we know that it would become a cherished tradition for our family, now including our daughter.
From Fridays to Sundays, between 8.30am and 1pm, you can pass-by to walk the dogs and socialise with the cats currently boarding there. The shelter’s surroundings are perfect for a delightful walk, and it’s pushchair-friendly once you cross the road, making it convenient for families with little ones.
You can simply turn up at the BSPCA Animal Welfare Centre, and one of their friendly volunteers will provide you with a dog to walk. This week we were presented with Lia, a delightful shelter dog, along with a lead, ready for a stroll.
She’s a gorgeous little lady with a heart of gold, and she enjoyed every step of the journey as much as we did. She stretched her legs, and as we walked, her tail had a mind of its own, delighting our daughter by playfully tickling her legs. It was a heartwarming moment that brought smiles all around.
With the sun shining, we applied sun cream and stayed hydrated as we explored the vast space that is Askar. It proved more than just exercise; it was an opportunity to nurture compassion and kindness. Our walk through the shelter’s nearby surroundings was the perfect way to make the most of the beautiful weather, with the added bonus of making a dent in our attempt to hit 10,000 daily steps.
But here’s the exciting part: while we spent time with our furry friend Lia, we also took a moment to say hello to the cats and socialise with them. If you’re looking for a new member of your household, I’d strongly recommend that you consider adoption. After all, an animal is for life and not just until the novelty wears off.
So, if you’re seeking a heartwarming adventure for your family, I invite you to visit the BSPCA Animal Welfare Centre. Simply follow the online directions to this remarkable destination, and you’ll be on your way to making a difference, one step at a time.
