Bahrain welcomed the New Year with a stunning array of fireworks and family celebrations across the kingdom.
His Majesty King Hamad last night exchanged cables of congratulations with leaders of Arab, Islamic and friendly countries.
He wished them abundant health and happiness and their countries and people further progress and prosperity.
He prayed for security, peace and prosperity for all countries and people in the world during the New Year.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, exchanged similar cables of congratulations.
His Majesty and HRH Prince Salman also exchanged greetings on the occasion and were greeted by Royal Family members, ministers, government officials and citizens.
In a tweet, HRH Prince Salman wished for a year ‘full of peace, security, stability and goodness for the whole world’.
“We renew our resolve to continue the path of national achievements,” he said.
People gathered in large numbers as spectacular fireworks lit up the sky in a dazzling display of colours at seven designated spots in Manama and Muharraq.
The seven iconic landmarks were: Bahrain Fort, Water Garden City, Bahrain Harbour, Bahrain Bay, Bahrain National Museum, Al Najma Club and Marassi Beach.
The New Year’s Eve celebrations also featured live entertainment at some places.
The Festival City at the Water Garden City featured light and drone shows, in addition to a number of live performances.
Patient motorists too enjoyed the events despite being stuck in traffic on some roads. Patrols were out in full force to ensure a smooth traffic flow and road safety.
