Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, announced plans to launch new flights to two major Chinese cities – Guangzhou and Shanghai – starting next month.
The move comes as Gulf Air seeks to expand its network in the Asia-Pacific region, capitalising on China’s economy and tourism market.
“This is a key part of our strategy for measured network growth,” said Gulf Air Group chief executive Dr Jeffrey Goh in a statement. “The flights will offer passengers more choice and flexibility, while also creating new trade, tourism and collaboration opportunities for both Bahrain and China.”
Beyond direct connections, the new routes will provide passengers travelling between GCC countries, Africa and Europe with convenient one-stop connections to China via Bahrain’s new, efficient terminal.
Starting May 28, Gulf Air will operate four weekly flights between Bahrain International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Three weekly flights will connect Bahrain with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport starting May 29. All flights will utilise Gulf Air’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, known for featuring luxurious business class seating.
The launch coincides with the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 29 to 31 in Beijing, marking the forum’s 20th anniversary.
