HANDBALL – Bahrain are all set to take part in the Arab Youth Handball Championships 2024 in Najaf, Iraq.
The regional competition is scheduled to begin tomorrow and continue until Tuesday next week. Five nations are taking part, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, and hosts Iraq.
The kingdom’s youth national team are already in Najaf. The delegation that travelled to the Iraqi city is headed by Bahrain Handball Federation national teams director Ismail Baqer, and it includes head coach Abdulrahman Mohammed, his staff, and 18 players.
The roster of young talents includes Sayed Omran Al Muhafza, Majeed Fadel, Mohammed Fathi Al Marzouq, Ahmed Abdulla, Eyad Abbas Al Zaki, Mahdi Jaafar Ali, Sayed Nouh Mohammed, Khalil Abdulrahman Al Mulla, Hassan Ali Saif, Ali Adel Issa, Mohammed Ali Hassan, Isa Mohammed Babur, Sayed Ali Bashar, Wadih Ali Hassan, Abdulla Mohammed Rabie, Ali Mahdi Al Mahrous, Mahmood Ali Ahmed, and Hussain Qasim Ebadi.
Bahrain begin their campaign against Syria as part of the opening day’s schedule. They then take on Saudi the following day. The nationals face Iraq on Friday in their penultimate assignment and then play Jordan on Saturday. The final day of the preliminary round will be on Sunday, when Bahrain have a bye.
The top two teams at the end of the single round-robin will move on to square off for the gold medals on the championship’s concluding day next week. That same evening, the bronze medal contest will take place.
Upon arriving in Najaf, Bahrain’s delegation was welcomed by Iraqi officials.
