Denver-based Moroccan beauty guru Nura Afia is all set to become Covergirl's first hijab-wearing brand ambassador!
The popular Muslim beauty vlogger launched her YouTube page, Babylailalov, in 2011. She has since amassed 213,000-plus subscribers and 13 million views doing tutorials for everything from smoky eye makeup to how to wear a hijab.
The beauty brand made the announcement as part of its move towards inclusivity.
Afia joins CoverGirls Sofia Vergara and Katy Perry in the diversity-focused #LashEquality campaign.
She will star in the upcoming commercial for CoverGirl's So Lashy Mascara and will also be featured on a big billboard in NYC's Times Square.
"It feels so surreal," Afia said in an interview with Glamour. "I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale."
"I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we're important, especially hijabis," she said.
"[We] can be featured on TV, [we] can be featured on billboards in Times Square. [We] can be represented."
CoverGirl is in heated competition with L'Oreal's Maybelline line and has shifted its focus to promoting "inclusive beauty".
The campaign supports "any and all types— from skin types to lash types".
