BOXING – THE latest edition of the Domestic Boxing Open Air Event, organised by the Bahrain Boxing Federation (BBF), will be taking place this Friday at Dilmun Club in Saar.
Around 15 to 20 bouts will feature on the evening’s card, with the first fight scheduled to get underway at 6pm.
Boxers from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait will be taking part, BBF head coach and technical manager Tony Davis has confirmed.
Amongst the fighters are around 20 youngsters who will be representing the kingdom at the upcoming ISF Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024 – a massive sporting and cultural event that will feature more than 70 countries from around the world and around 5,400 athletes, coaches, referees, and officials.
Boxing is one of the 26 sports that will feature at the Gymnasiade.
Davis told the GDN that Friday’s Domestic Boxing Open Air Event will be a final run-out for the young boxers before they compete in the Gymnasiade two weeks after. Also as part of the evening’s programme, the up-and-coming fighters will be taking part in a special ring parade prior to the start of action.
The kingdom’s representatives also recently stepped into the ring in the sixth edition of the School Games – a national multi-sport event featuring Bahrain’s private and public schools, which served as a warm-up to the Gymnasiade.
Friday’s Domestic Boxing Open Air Event follows the success of previous meetings, with the last being held in May of this year.
