The 12th edition of the Farmers Market will be organised from Saturday to February 22 at Budaiya Botanical Garden, bringing together a host of Bahraini farmers, brands and artisans, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak has announced.
The event, organised in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and stc Bahrain, will be held in conjunction with the kingdom’s celebration of its National Day and the Anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad’s Accession to the Throne.
“The Farmers Market aligns with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad to promote food security and invest in it,” Mr Al Mubarak said during an inspection visit yesterday to the market to follow up on the ongoing preparations there.
He was accompanied by the Under-Secretary for Agricultural Affairs and Animal Wealth Assim Abdullatif and several officials from the organising committee.
Mr Al Mubarak praised the unflinching support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to develop the agricultural sector and encourage the private sector to invest in it.
He also commended partnership with NIAD led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and president of the initiative’s advisory board.
“Thirty-three local farmers will participate in the market this year alongside a number of agricultural firms, nurseries and apiaries. The event will also feature handcrafts, educational and recreational activities for children, restaurants and cafes,” the minister said.
“The market aims to support local agricultural production by providing a marketing platform for the farmers,” he added.
Mr Abdullatif said registration of the participants in the market was completed, pointing out to the popularity of the event.
“The organising committee is fully prepared for the 12th edition of the market with an array of programmes put in place to ensure its success,” he added.
