The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities paid tribute to the late Bahraini author and thinker Dr. Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari, adviser to His Majesty the King for Cultural and Scientific Affairs.
As a leading figure in the intellectual and cultural movement of Bahrain, Dr. Al Ansari leaves behind a legacy of contributions spanning over seven decades.
Baca president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said: “Today, the Bahraini cultural community bids farewell to the author and thinker Dr. Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari with deep sorrow.”
He emphasised that the cultural and intellectual community will miss a distinguished literary figure who contributed to enriching local and regional discourse. His contributions in the fields of sociology, politics, and literary criticism will continue to serve as an invaluable reference for researchers, writers, and scholars.
He further noted that Dr. Al Ansari represented a national and intellectual icon of Bahrain.
Dr. Al Ansari held a PhD in Modern and Contemporary Arab and Islamic Thought from the American University of Beirut and a degree in French Language and Culture from the Sorbonne in Paris.
Over the course of his career, he held several prominent positions, including Chairman of Bahrain’s Information Department and Member of the State Council from 1969 to 1971. He was a co-founder and the first Chairman of the Bahrain Writers Association and served as a Member of the Founding Council of the Arab World Institute.
Dr. Al Ansari also taught at Bahrain’s Higher Institute for Teachers, the American University of Beirut, and Gulf University, and was Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of Islamic Culture and Modern Thought at Gulf University in Bahrain.
In addition, he was a member of Bahrain’s National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature.
Dr. Al Ansari’s work was known for its intellectual consistency. His works also focused on diagnosing the Arab situation politically, socially, and culturally.
He was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Award, the Bahrain State Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement, and the GCC Leaders’ Medal at the Muscat Summit. His extensive body of work includes 21 books and a significant collection of published literary articles.
