Fifteen special television segments, produced by using artificial intelligence (AI), will be broadcast for the first time on Bahrain TV and other government media platforms during Ramadan which is expected to start this weekend.
The innovative approach by the Information Ministry aims to blend tradition with modern technology.
The ministry’s AI Team head Mohannad Al Noaimi told the GDN that the segments target different age groups and highlight the Ramadan hospitality in the kingdom.
“We merged three AI tools – ChatGPT, Kling and RunwayML – to produce 15 television segments that will be aired on BTV and the ministry’s social media accounts throughout Ramadan,” he said.
“The AI tools were trained to get facial features of different Bahrainis which reflect in the videos as you feel it’s an actual person living here.
“Ramadan lanterns and other traditional props were then incorporated in the videos which were all completed within 24 hours.”
Mr Al Noaimi added the new approach saved time and was cost-efficient.
“This initiative is part of an executive plan approved by Minister Dr Ramzan Al Noaimi, to develop visual content and integrate advanced AI tools into media production to enhance quality and efficiency.
“We are meeting audience expectations by blending tradition with modern technology, elevating the viewing experience with creative and advanced visuals.”
Mr Al Noaimi highlighted that AI technology has significantly improved content quality and production efficiency, providing unprecedented capabilities in visual design, speed of execution and the development of innovative ideas aligned with the spirit of the holy month.
He added that the ministry continued to leverage modern technology to enhance creativity in media content, emphasising that AI enabled new opportunities for innovation and renewal in visual production, keeping pace with the rapid advancements in the media sector.
“We have trained about 300 employees at the ministry on how to create images, integrate videos and use AI translation that meets the style of the reports published on Bahrain News Agency.”
Bahrain has recognised the importance of AI in streamlining processes and informing strategic decision-making of businesses across all industries, taking steps in the study and its application in a range of fields.
This includes using AI to detect changes and construction violations using satellite imagery, developing AI-powered chatbots, automatic monitoring of all palm trees, initiatives in education and training, including AI degree programmes in universities and vocational institutions, university AI labs, and Hackathons, which offer youth opportunities to gain knowledge.
