RUGBY – THE Bahrain First XV are set for an exciting top-of-the-table clash with the Dubai Exiles First XV tomorrow in the 2024-25 Men’s West Asia Super Rugby.
The game is scheduled for a 1pm kick-off and it will be played at Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) in Saar.
The squad list has been announced. The roster of players includes Matt McKee, Lindsey Gibson, Henry Paul, Awethu Lushozi, Tian Jacobs, Henk Gouws, Charlie Farmer, Rory Drummond, Romeo Eksteen, Cormac Fox, Josh Petro, James Newey, Jack Philips, Joel Kidgell, Josh Drain, Mackenzie Oliver, Dan Mau’u, Nick Young, Aled Morris, Deina Morete, Greg Heath, and Dai Evans.
Adam Wallace is the BRFC rugby director and Ross Preedy is the backs coach.
Bahrain have so far won all eight of their matches to date, including their clash with the Exiles in November of last year at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. The kingdom’s representatives triumphed 19-17 for their sixth successive victory against their Emirati opponents dating back to 2019.
Bahrain now top the seven-team league table with 38 points. The Exiles follow with 35 points from seven wins in their eight fixtures, while the Dubai Hurricanes First XV are third with 29 points following six wins and three losses.
The Abu Dhabi Harlequins First XV are fourth with three wins, four defeats, and one draw for 20 points, while the Dubai Dragons First XV, also on 20 points, Doha First XV on six points, and the Dubai Sharks First XV on five points round out the standings.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Golden Oldies battle it out against Khobar RFC today at BRFC. The game is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off.
The squad list for the Golden Oldies features Brandon Bourgeois, John Docherty, Anwar Ateeq, Lee Stones, Alan Newbigging, Roshan Fredrick, Saul Piper, Abdallah Faoury, Tommy Booth, Sebastian Hofan, Kevin Harris, Chris Kropp, Will Trodd, A’Jani Stokes, and Gautier Lopez.
