BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN Basketball Association president Alaa Mudara visited the kingdom’s senior men’s basketball national team as they continued their preparations for their final qualification competition for the Fiba Asia Cup 2025.
The three-team event in West Asia is being hosted by Bahrain, and it gets underway tonight with the first of three games this weekend.
Iraq and India lock horns at 10pm at Khalifa Sports City Arena in the opening fixture. Bahrain then face India tomorrow before completing the tournament schedule on Sunday against Iraq. Both games are also slated for 10pm tip-offs.
During his visit with the players, Mudara stressed the importance of this stage and of qualifying for this year’s Fiba Asia Cup, set to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in August.
Bahrain have a 14-player squad for these games, including Ahmed Salman, Mustafa Hussain, Ali Aqeel, Ali Hussain, Mohammed Ameer, Ali Shukrallah, Subah Hussain, Ahmed Bin Dainah, Ali Jaber, Wayne Chism, Maitham Jameel, Hesham Sarhan, Ahmed Alderazi, and Mohammed Juma’a. They are coached by Lebanese tactician Jad El Hajj.
A similar final qualifying tournament for East Asia is being held with Chinese Taipei, Guam, and Thailand in the fray.
The Fiba Asia Cup is the continent’s premier basketball tournament, featuring senior men’s national teams from Fiba Asia as well as from Fiba Oceania. Bahrain are looking to qualify for the championship for the 10th time.
