His Majesty King Hamad ratified and issued Law (15) of 2025, amending Article (20) of Law (8) of 2009 on combating smoking and all types of tobacco, following its approval by the Shura Council and Parliament.
According to the law, Article (20) of Law (8) of 2009 shall be replaced with the following:
Without prejudice to stricter penalties prescribed in the Penal Code or any other legislation:
- A fine of not less than BD20 and not exceeding BD50 shall be imposed on any person violating the provisions of Article (4) of this law.
- A fine of not less than BD100 shall be imposed on any person violating the provisions of Articles (5), (8), and (13) of this law.
- A fine of not less than BD1,000 and not exceeding BD3,000 shall be imposed on any person violating the provisions of Articles (7) and (12) of this law.
- A fine of not less than BD2,000 and not exceeding BD5,000 shall be imposed on any person violating the provisions of Articles (2) and (3) of this law.
- A penalty of imprisonment for not less than one year and a fine of not less than BD1,000 and not exceeding BD100,000 shall be imposed on any person violating the provisions of Article (11) of this law.
In the event of a conviction, the court may also order the closure of the establishment for a period not exceeding three months or the confiscation of the materials used.
The Prime Minister and ministers, each within their capacity, shall implement the provisions of this law, which shall take effect the day following its publication in the Official Gazette.
