Social Development Minister and Care of People with Disabilities High Committee chairman Osama Al Alawi praised Labour Fund’s (Tamkeen) role in implementing development initiatives and praised its decision to provide an additional 10 per cent wage support annually for employees with disabilities in the private sector.
He described the measure as a tangible step towards building a more inclusive work environment across employment, education, training, and community engagement.
Mr Al Awali was speaking as he received Tamkeen chief executive Maha Mofeez yesterday.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation to support the integration of persons with disabilities into the labour market, in line with the national disability strategy and Bahrain’s priorities to ensure equal opportunities for all segments of society.
The minister highlighted the directives of Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust chairman and Tamkeen chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to further develop Tamkeen’s programmes and adopt inclusive employment policies.
These directives, he said, serve as an incentive for institutions to promote inclusive practices and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
On her part, Ms Mofeez underscored Tamkeen’s commitment to inclusive policies and to delivering specialised training and capacity-building programmes tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities.
She emphasised continued cooperation with the ministry to design integrated initiatives that reinforce the inclusion of this group within Bahrain’s development process.
