Visitors to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles could fly between venues to escape the city’s notoriously congested freeways, after organisers asked Archer Aviation to supply an air taxi service for the event.
The company says it will use a fleet of “Midnight” eVTOL aircraft to transport fans to and from venues in flights lasting around 10-20 minutes, and costing about the same as a high-end Uber car ride.
A flying taxi service was supposed to debut at the Paris Olympics in 2024, but was not certified by Europe’s air safety agency in time to be useful.
