ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S athletes will be competing in four major events over the remainder of the year, it has been confirmed.
In a meeting of the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) board, chaired by BAA president Mohammed bin Jalal, the BAA approved the national teams’ programme for the rest of 2025.
The kingdom’s leading track and field stars of various ages are scheduled to take part in top regional, continental, and international competition. These include the Asian Throwing Championships 2025 in Mokpo, South Korea, this August; the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, in September; the third Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this October; and the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November.
Both the Asian Youth Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games are multi-sport events, with athletics being one of Bahrain’s best chances at claiming medals.
Bin Jalal praised the BAA board for their work in improving the sport of athletics in Bahrain, and emphasised the importance of doubling efforts during the coming period to continue the course of success and achievements.
The Asian Youth Games, to be held in the kingdom, is scheduled from October 22 to 31. It is expected to feature more than 20 sports. Aside from athletics, also slated for the meeting are badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, camel racing, equestrian (endurance and jumping), e-sports, futsal, golf, handball, judo, jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, Muay, road cycling, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, weightlifting, kabaddi, volleyball, and teqball.
Asia’s best young athletes representing an expected 45 countries will be descending upon Bahrain for the competition.
The event is highly regarded as the second-largest multi-sport meeting in the continent, surpassed only by the Asian Games at the senior level.
