CRICKET – BAHRAIN claimed an impressive win against Tanzania yesterday in the Arjun Menon Memorial T20 Cup, currently being played in Malawi.
After the Bahrainis won the toss and elected to bowl, Tanzania posted a competitive total of 154/7 in their 20 overs, spearheaded by the brilliant unbeaten knock of 67 off 47 balls by Mukesh Suthar, which included five fours and three sixes.
Opener Arun Yadav provided a strong start with a quickfire 46 off 34 balls, while Dhrumit Mehta contributed 20 off 18. However, Imran Anwar (3/25) and Muhammad Rizwan (2/36) struck crucial blows for Bahrain, restricting Tanzania’s middle order.
In reply, Bahrain chased down the target comfortably in just 16.2 overs, courtesy of a dominant batting display from in-form Fiaz Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 60 off 39 balls (two fours, five sixes).
He was equally supported by Sohail Ahmed, who smashed a rapid 48 off 30 balls (two fours, five sixes) to accelerate the chase. Despite early strikes from Ally Mpeka (2/26) and Arun Yadav (1/24), Bahrain’s aggressive approach ensured a six-wicket victory with 22 balls to spare.
Bahrain’s clinical chase showcased their batting depth, and their six-wicket victory helped them obtain two crucial points on the standings.
Their next match in the competition will be tomorrow against hosts Malawi.
