Emerging challenges and developments in passport services, legal identity and integrated border management were among key issues discussed at a key meeting yesterday.
Mechanisms for sharing expertise to develop systems and procedures in line with international standards and practices were also discussed when Interior Ministry Under-Secretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa met International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission to Bahrain Aishath Ihma Shareef and her accompanying delegation.
The meeting was attended by assistant under-secretary for exits, search and follow-up Brigadier Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Dossairi.
Shaikh Hisham commended the vital role played by the IOM in supporting international efforts related to migration and border management.
The meeting discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and explored means to enhance co-ordination.
Both sides emphasised the importance of implementing UN migration programmes in order to support the ministry’s efforts to enhance security, facilitate procedures related to individual mobility and develop the technical and administrative infrastructure in this field.
