FOOTBALL – Bahrain's Sitra were yesterday drawn in a tough Group A for the preliminary round of the 2025-26 Gulf Club Champions League.
The draw for the second edition of the regional competition was held at the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) headquarters in Doha, Qatar. AGCFF competitions department representative Hamad Al Hajri conducted the proceedings.
Sitra are in the same pool as Zakho from Iraq, Al Ain from the UAE, and Al Qadsia from Kuwait. Group B features Al Shabab from Saudi Arabia, Al Nahda from Oman, Al Rayyan from Qatar, and Al Tadamun Hadramaut from Yemen.
According to the AGCFF, the tournament schedule will be announced at a later time.
Sitra are flying the kingdom’s flag in the championship after finishing an impressive third amongst 12 teams in the 2024-25 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Duhok from Iraq won the first edition of the tournament earlier this year after defeating Qadsia 2-1 in the final. Riffa were the kingdom’s representatives from that competition. They did not make it out of the group stage, winning two of their six matches, while drawing twice and losing two other times.
Sitra, coached by Bahraini tactician Isa Al Saadoun, have stepped up their local training ahead of their upcoming 2025-26 season.
