The family of an Indian cook in the UAE has been awarded AED400,000 (BD40,000) after he was killed in a road accident in 2023.
Musthafa Odayappurath, a native of Kerala, tragically died after being hit by a car while crossing a road in Abu Dhabi.
Following an investigation, it was determined that the driver was negligent and was therefore ordered to pay AED200,000 (BD20,000) to the victim's family, in accordance with Islamic Diya law, also known as blood money.
However, a separate claim was filed against the insurance company on behalf of the family, arguing that the initial amount was insufficient.
After a long legal process, the amount was raised to AED400,000 (BD40,000), which will be received by his mother, wife, son and daughter.
