MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport took pole position last night for the eighth and penultimate round of the 2025 British GT Championship, being held at Brands Hatch circuit in the UK.
2 Seas’ pairing of Kevin Tse and Maximillian Goetz will start today’s two-hour race from the leading position on the 20-car grid, which includes 12 runners in the top-tier GT3 class.
Tse and Goetz captured pole after topping the combined timesheet from the two GT3 qualifying sessions yesterday. Tse was in their #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the first where he clocked a best lap time of one minute 23.971 seconds. Goetz then followed it up with an even quicker 1:22.816s, which earned them their aggregate best of 2:46.787.
Tse and Goetz will have to serve a success penalty during today’s race, as per championship rules. During races lasting two hours or longer, the top three finishers in both the GT3 and GT4 classes from the previous round must respectively serve an additional 20s, 15s, and 10s success penalty during their mandatory pitstop.
Their 2 Seas teammates Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss qualified sixth in their #42 contender. They had a combined time of 2:47.656 after Dawson posted a mark of 1:24.081 in session one before Jewiss ran for a 1:23.575 lap.
Dawson and Jewiss are currently the GT3 drivers’ championship leaders with 118 points so far this season, but are just eight ahead of Tse and Goetz in second.
Today’s race is scheduled for a 3pm start, Bahrain time.
“This is good for the championship – P1 is always nice because it’s a long race, and it’s a two-hour race,” said Tse at the end of qualifying yesterday. “With the 20-second success penalty, let’s see – it’s a long race, and hopefully we’ll do well.”
Added Goetz: “Kevin did a great job – quickest in his session. The car felt great the whole day today, we managed well to be up there.
“I’m not so happy with my laps to be honest, I did a little mistakes so I lost one or two-tenths. But in the end, we are on pole, and it’s a great feeling.”
Set to line up alongside 2 Seas on the front row are Blackthorn, whose pairing of Giacomo Petrobelli and Jonny Adam qualified second last night with a 2:47.003 best combined time in their #7 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3.
Barwell Motorsport’s Alex Martin and Patrick Kujala in their #78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 took third in qualifying with a total time of 2:47.295. Barwell’s other crew of Rob Collard and Hugo Cook (2:47.498) in their #1 Lamborghini and Optimum Motorsport’s #77 tandem of Morgan Tillbrook and Marvin Kirchhofer (2:47.628), driving a McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, finished ahead of Dawson and Jewiss on last night’s combined qualifying timesheet.
Heading into today’s action, both 2 Seas crews have so far won two races apiece this campaign, putting the team, co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in first place on the GT3 Teams’ Championship standings.
2 Seas have a total of 228 points, with Barwell in second place on 194.5 points. Blackthorn are third with 109 points.
Following this race weekend, the 2025 British GT Championship heads for its ninth and final round, again at Donington Park, on October 4 and 5.
2 Seas are competing this British GT campaign hoping to repeat their title-winning success in the GT3 teams’ championship from 2023. They enjoyed a solid campaign last year, which saw them claim two race wins and a pole position.
