The superhero costume worn in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 by actor Toby Maguire is going up for auction on September 4 via PropstoreAuction at 10 am PDT (8 pm Bahrain time). It is estimated to sell for $100,000 (BD37,700), according to the auction website.
The spandex bodysuit, created by Frontline Design with the guidance of costume designer James Acheson, was used extensively on the set of both films. It was refined for Spider-Man 2 with changes, including a darker blue fabric and a larger chest emblem.
Adorning the suit are thin strands of dimensional grey foam webbing and red spider emblems, which were applied to the chest and back.
Additionally, the damaged parts of Maguire's costume were restored with the help of urethane web replicas cast from the original moulds.
The suit is currently displayed on a mannequin, custom-made to fit the costume's proportions, with a mesh spandex and foam muscle undersuit labelled for the actor who once donned the instantly recognisable garb.
