BASKETBALL – Bahrain's Manama have been confirmed as one of 16 teams that will be hitting the hardwood in the 37th Arab Basketball Championship for Men’s Clubs.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from September 25 to October 6 in Dubai, the UAE.
The field of participating outfits was announced by the Arab Basketball Confederation.
Manama are the lone squad from the kingdom taking part.
There are also three sides from Kuwait, two each from Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon, and one apiece from Libya and hosts UAE.
The Kuwaiti outfits include Kuwait SC, Al Qadsia, and Kazma; Al Arabi and Al Rayyan are competing for Qatar; Oman are represented by Al Basher and Seeb; Yemen’s Al Shaab Hadramaut and Al Mina will be playing; Syria’s Al Wahda SC and Homs Al Fida are entered; Al Hikma and Club Antonin Sportif are joining from Lebanon; and Al Ahli Tripoli from Libya and Al Nasr from the UAE complete the line-up.
No Bahraini team has ever won the Arab clubs title.
The last time a kingdom’s club participated was in the 35th edition of the tournament in 2022, held in Kuwait, when Bahrain’s Ahli took part and made it to the round of 16.
Last year, Bahrain national team star Mustafa Hussain helped guide Qatari outfit Al Arabi to the crown.
He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 12-team competition, held in Cairo, Egypt.
