A Chinese company is offering a unique bonus programme to its employees.
Arashi Vision Inc, based in Shenzhen region, is giving its employees $70 (BD26) for every 0.5kg they lose, as part of a weight-loss programme.
According to reports, an employee named Xie Yaqi lost 20kgs within three months, earning him a prize of 20,000 yuan ($2,800). He was also named the ‘Weight Loss Champion’.
Arashi Vision first started the programme in 2022. Since then, it has conducted seven seasons and has given out 2 million yuan ($280,000) in prizes.
Every season, around 30 employees are selected to participate in the programme. Each employee is weighed every week to keep track of their progress.
However, there is also a ‘penalty clause’. If participants gain weight during the competition period, they have to pay a fine of 800 yuan for every 0.5kg they gain back.
A representative of the company said, “Through this challenge, we aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage our employees to prioritise their well-being beyond work. It serves as a positive incentive for them to engage with life and work with renewed enthusiasm.”
